The Libra Equinox Is Here: What in Your Life Needs to Come Back Into Balance?
Sept 21-27
TRANSITS
We’re down to the last few months of 2026, and what have we accomplished?
This reminds me very much of the time when I was still in full-time corporate marketing. Mid-September was when we would take a good, hard look at our budgets, how we were performing against our targets, and what we still needed to accomplish before the year ended. A large part of my work involved strategy, planning, and deciding where our resources would be best spent. Sometimes it meant tightening our belts because we had already spent most of what was allocated for the year, leaving very little to spend from October to December. Other times, we still had quite a bit left, and I would be telling the field force to spend it and roll out more programs because we still had marketing money to put to good use.
Mid-September into October was also when we would start planning for the following year. Budget setting would begin, along with setting our targets and determining how much we could spend on programs for the year ahead.
We were trying to make the most of what was left of the current year while already thinking about what came next. It was a period of checks and balances.
Which makes the timing of the September Equinox rather apt.
On September 23, the Sun leaves Virgo and enters Libra, marking the Autumnal Equinox and the beginning of Libra season. This is when day and night are nearly equal in length. And let us not forget that Libra is the sign associated with proportion, balance, relationships, harmony, fairness, beauty, and what we value.
This may be a good time to take inventory of our own lives. With only a few months left in 2026, some things clearly need more of our attention, while others have probably taken enough of it already.
I’ve always believed in planning, and this is one of the reasons I was drawn to astrology in the first place. Understanding the skies does not mean handing our choices over to the planets, or being beholden to the cosmos. It means understanding the season we are in and aligning ourselves with it, so we work with the energies rather than against them.
This Equinox also arrives just after Venus in Scorpio squared Pluto in Aquarius last week. And oh what a week!
Love, money, desire, attachment, power, and what we value may already have been stirred up. Consider it an opening salvo, because we are heading toward a rather spicy Venus retrograde in Scorpio beginning October 3.
In traditional astrology, Venus is in detriment in Scorpio. Venus seeks harmony, ease, pleasure, and connection, but in Scorpio that is compromised. Scorpio does not do anything half-heartedly. It intensifies, probes, and brings us closer to whatever is lurking underneath, including the things we would sometimes rather not look at.
And that balance can be rather complicated.
Sometimes we accommodate other people so much that we lose sight of what we actually want. At other times, we may have been so focused on our own priorities that we have failed to consider what someone else needs from us. The Aries-Libra axis asks us to find the balance between the two without abandoning either ourselves or the relationships that matter to us.
What Deserves More of You?
Which brings me back to those mid-September planning sessions from my full-time corporate days.
By that point in the year, we couldn’t change what had already been spent. We could only look at what we had accomplished, what resources we still had available, and decide where they would be best used in the months that remained. At the same time, we were preparing for a busy final quarter while already planning for the year to come.
Perhaps the Libra Equinox gives us a similar opportunity.
We still have a few months left in 2026, and our resources are not unlimited. There is only so much money, time, energy, attention, and effort to go around. Some areas of our lives may have been getting far more than their fair share, while others may have been neglected.
The Aries Full Moon brings another part of that equation into focus: me versus we. How much of ourselves are we investing in our own needs and priorities, and how much are we giving to other people? There are times when other people genuinely need more from us, and there are times when we have given so much that there is very little left for ourselves.
A Little Help From the Skies
Mercury in Libra sextiles Jupiter in Leo on September 22, and this is one of the more encouraging aspects of the week. Mercury in Libra knows how to communicate with tact and diplomacy, while Jupiter in Leo brings confidence, optimism, creativity, showmanship, and perhaps a little bravado.
This favors situations where we need to put ourselves or our ideas forward, become more visible, or allow ourselves to be seen. Presentations, pitches, important conversations, introductions, and negotiations can benefit from more confidence and flair. Jupiter in Leo brings the showmanship, while Mercury in Libra brings tact, diplomacy, and a sense of proportion.
Things become less straightforward by September 26, when the Sun in Libra opposes Neptune in Aries.
Neptune can inspire, but it can also distort. Imagination, intuition, and creativity may be heightened, but so can idealization and projection. We may be looking at something not quite as it really is, but as we hope, fear, or imagine it to be.
And only a few hours later, the Sun in Libra trines Pluto in Aquarius.
If Neptune blurs, Pluto digs.
Pluto is not interested in the facade. It wants to know what is underneath it. The Sun’s trine to Pluto can bring something into sharper focus, revealing dynamics we may not have noticed before and giving us a better sense of where our real advantage lies. Once we see what is actually going on, we are in a much better position to decide what to do with it.
Then we arrive at the Full Moon in Aries on September 27.
And this is where all the talk about balance becomes personal.
The Moon in Aries puts the self, our desires, instincts, independence, and sense of agency in the foreground, while the Sun in Libra reminds us that we do not exist in isolation. We have other people: partners, families, friends, colleagues, employers, and communities whose needs and expectations also have a place in our lives.

So I don’t see this Equinox as a call to make everything peaceful. I see it as a chance to recalibrate before things get more intense and complicated.
Fortunately, we have some helpful aspects this week.

Full Moons tend to bring things to a culmination or make something more visible. By the end of this week, we may have a much clearer sense of where the balance has tipped too far in one direction.
The last stretch of the year is often one of the busiest. Before we get swept up in everything that comes with it, this may be a good time to look at how we are using what we have and make some adjustments where they are needed.
Maybe something deserves more of our attention. Maybe something else has already taken enough. And there may be things we simply don’t want to carry into next year’s plan.
We cannot get back the time, energy, money, or attention we have already spent this year. But we still get to decide where the rest goes.
And perhaps that is the real question of this Equinox: What deserves what we have left?

Navigate the Rest of 2026
The Equinox may be asking us to take stock, but there is still a lot of astrology ahead before 2026 is over.
Venus turns retrograde in Scorpio on October 3, beginning a longer review of love, money, relationships, values, desire, and the agreements we have made. The effects of the recent eclipses are also still unfolding, and some of what they set in motion may not become fully apparent for months.
In my upcoming webinar, After the Eclipses: What They Set in Motion for the Rest of 2026, we will map the major astrological cycles ahead, inlcuding the Libra Ingress chart, examine how the recent eclipses may continue activating different areas of your birth chart, and identify what to watch as you navigate the rest of 2026 and prepare for early 2027.
