History doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes.

That was exactly what I posted when I announced, before the election results came out, that Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. would win the 2022 Philippine presidential election.

And he did.

Another Marcos in Malacañang, decades after his father had occupied the presidency. There was an unmistakable historical parallel, but that didn’t automatically mean the Philippines was returning to the same political era. The circumstances had changed, even if a familiar name returned to power.

That’s what makes this second Venus–Pluto square worth watching. An arrangement that appeared settled may reveal a different balance of interests.

And just a few days later, on October 24, Venus reaches the most significant turning point of the week.

October 20: Venus Retrograde in Scorpio Squares Pluto in Aquarius

On October 20, Venus retrograde in Scorpio squares Pluto in Aquarius for the second time, revisiting an aspect that first occurred in September.

This is significant because we’re dealing with an ongoing story, not necessarily a new development. Money, relationships, alliances and the balance of power come into play.

I’m very familiar with these dynamics, having held corporate strategic leadership positions and worked closely with powerful people. What’s presented publicly can be very different from what actually takes place behind closed doors. An agreement may look mutually beneficial, but the parties involved don’t necessarily have equal influence or the same interests.

And this isn’t limited to the corporate and political world. The same dynamics exist in professional collaborations, friendships, families and romantic relationships. Financial dependence, jealousy, loyalty and competing interests can all influence what people are willing to accept, negotiate or conceal.

Pluto’s previous passage through Aquarius coincided with a period of major civil movements, including the era of the American and French Revolutions, when established political authority faced extraordinary challenges.

More than two centuries later, Pluto is back in Aquarius, and we’re witnessing another period of unrest, competing interests and questions about who really holds power.

During that earlier period, revolutions challenged the authority of kings and the belief that power belonged to them by birthright. Louis XVI lost his throne and his life, and the French monarchy fell. Yet France eventually found itself under Napoleon, who crowned himself emperor.

And look at France today. Hundreds of thousands joined demonstrations over rising living costs, education, deteriorating public services, and overall dissatisfaction with present government. Demonstrations escalated into violent clashes, looting and attacks on public buildings, putting further pressure on President Emmanuel Macron’s administration.

The United States has its own historical parallel. The American Revolution challenged British rule and the authority of King George III. The colonies fought for independence, rejected monarchy and eventually established a republic built on the principle that political power should not rest in the hands of a king.

And more than two centuries later, Americans are once again invoking that principle. On the same day as the demonstrations in France, Americans joined the “No Kings” protests against Donald Trump.

I’ve also made predictions about the political and economic landscape in the United States even before the pandemic and about Donald Trump following his election victory. So naturally, major developments like these catch my attention and prompt me to revisit my previous forecasts, examine the planetary movements at play, and compare unfolding events with historical patterns.

In my website article for October 12–18, published before these demonstrations, I had already discussed Pluto turning direct and the questions it would bring into focus: entrenched power, the authority of institutions, who deserves to remain in positions of power, and how much influence individuals and communities can exercise collectively. I had also anticipated heightened tensions, confrontations and grievances that weren’t likely to stay buried.

And look at the timing. Pluto stationed direct in Aquarius on October 16, Philippine Time. The following day, major demonstrations took place in France and the United States.

The very themes I had identified in my previous forecast were unfolding on the world stage. This is precisely why I pay attention to planetary cycles and their historical parallels.

Predictive astrology allows us to recognize patterns and anticipate developments before they unfold.

Overthrowing an old order doesn’t necessarily end the struggle for power. What happens is that power simply changes hands.

Pluto’s longer cycle remains important, especially as collective movements, institutions and networks experience changing pressures. But this week’s astrology brings that larger theme into much more personal territory.

Because power isn’t exercised only by governments, corporations or institutions. It also operates within relationships, financial arrangements, families and the agreements we enter into with other people.

What we need to be aware of is that, oftentimes, the most consequential developments are the ones we know the least about.

That’s what makes predictive astrology so compelling: its ability to recognize patterns while accounting for the nuances of each period.

The same principle applies to the collective upheavals and global developments I’ve been predicting since Pluto entered Aquarius.

October 24: Venus Disappears, but a New Cycle Begins

On October 24, Venus retrograde meets the Sun at approximately 0°45′ Scorpio in an inferior conjunction, with Venus cazimi, traditionally described as being at the heart of the Sun.

Venus disappears in the Sun’s glare around this period, yet the conjunction marks the beginning of a new Venus cycle.

Something new may already be taking shape, even if there’s little evidence of it yet.

In relationships, intentions or priorities may be changing without any outward sign. The same could apply to financial negotiations or collaborations that haven’t been publicly discussed.

Venus follows an approximately eight-year rhythm, making 2010, 2018 and 2026 interesting reference points. These cycles can reveal recurring themes without guaranteeing repeated outcomes.

Mercury also stations retrograde in Scorpio later on October 24, adding another development to an already significant day.

What Does This Mean for Your Birth Chart?

The Venus cazimi occurs near 0° Scorpio, while Mercury stations retrograde near 21° Scorpio.

Their personal significance depends on the houses involved, natal planets activated and timing factors in your birth chart.

This is the kind of work we’re exploring in my ongoing 12-week Level 2 Predictive Astrology course with 15 students. I’ve barely had time to promote this class, so it’s encouraging to see the interest in studying predictive techniques in greater depth.

Level 1 begins again in January 2027, and I also offer introductory classes for those who want to learn the foundations.

For those who want to understand how these cycles relate to their own circumstances, a personalized astrology reading offers a closer examination of their birth chart and timing.

I wrote this article with the idea that history doesn’t repeat itself, but it rhymes.

Just because two parties are working together doesn’t mean they’re working toward the same outcome.

October 24–25: Mercury Retrograde and Venus Returns to Libra

Everyone’s favorite troublemaker, Mercury, stations retrograde at approximately 20°58′ Scorpio on October 24, bringing information, agreements and unfinished conversations back into focus.

New information could change how a situation is understood, particularly when financial or personal interests are involved. Hold on, that doesn’t necessarily mean deception. Sometimes circumstances have simply changed.

On October 25, Venus retrograde backtracks into Libra, emphasizing diplomacy, fairness and partnerships.

Here’s something worth watching: People may be willing to negotiate, but are they really open to changing what they want?

That distinction may become more important in the days ahead.

I also made predictions about the relationship between Marcos and the Dutertes, specifically that their political alliance would eventually deteriorate. What began as the UniTeam partnership has since developed into a full-blown political rift.

I remain impartial toward political candidates, regardless of whom I read for, including people from different political parties. My forecasts reflect my interpretation of the astrology, not political endorsements. Let me also be clear: I am discussing my past predictions and drawing historical comparisons. I am not making any predictions at this time about the direction or outcome of President Marcos Jr.’s administration or what will happen to his presidency.

Planetary cycles bring familiar themes back into view, months, years, decades or even centuries apart, but under entirely different circumstances. We study those cycles, compare them with history and use them to anticipate possible developments.

A familiar pattern doesn’t guarantee a familiar outcome. And what appears to be happening may not be the entire story.

And we’re not done yet. The astrology is building toward the October 26 Full Moon in Taurus, which brings another significant development into focus. I’ll explore that in a separate article next week.
